Dear Prof. Guido Torelli,

We regret to inform you that our Europractice-PLUS proposal to extend the
Europractice Service by a further 2 years was rejected by the European
Commission.

Although the Call (ICT-04-2017) to which we made the submission had a
section including the words “The goal is to support electronic components,
sensors, smart objects and systems access [3] to advanced design and
manufacturing for academic, research institutes and SMEs, [3] Including
Europractice-type actions”, the EC has made no provision to provide
continuity of support via Europractice or other service bids for the
European Academic sector. We believe that the European Academic sector has
an essential role in training the next generation of engineers which
European industry requires in order to prevent electronics systems design
jobs moving to other regions.

Consequently, without continued EC support, the Europractice Service which
has been operational since 1995 (or 1989 including the Eurochip period)
will either have to stop or be significantly curtailed after 30 June 2018.
