Dear PhD students,

I am writing to you again on the PhD extension in order to share my answers to some questions that have been brought to my attention and that are likely to be of interest to all of you.

The main point is that the instructions and deadline (August 19) for asking the extension are those given in my letter dated August 3 that you have already received (attached again for your convenience). Please disregard any previous indication that you might have received.

Second, if you have questions, please submit them by sending an email

I apologize again for the short notice. As I wrote in my letter, we are still waiting for more precise indications from the Ministry, but it seems that the University of Pavia will have to anticipate the funds for the scholarships during the extension. It is therefore urgent to know the number and duration (1 or 2 months) of the requests.

Subject: Extension request for third-year PhD students

Dear Phd Students,

as you already know, by virtue of art. 236 of D.L. “Rilancio”, dated may 19, 2020, PhD students terminating their course of studies in this academic year can ask for an extension of the course up to two months. For the recipients of the “borsa di dottorato”, the extension applies also to the scholarship. 
For most of you the PhD course ends on September 30, 2020. In this case, you could ask for an extension until November 30 at most.
Those of you that want to extend their course should send an email no later than August 19 

to: your PhD coordinator

enclosing the following information in the body of the email. 

	Name:

	Scholarship (con borsa/senza borsa) Yes/No:

Please send the mail even if you have already communicated your extension request to your coordinator.
By the end of August, we will publish the code numbers of PhD students whose requests have been received on the page

Please remember that this academic year, irrespective of the above extension, the deadline for delivering the thesis and applying for the final examination, is two months after the conclusion of the Phd course. Two examples:

- for those that will conclude their course on September 30 (without asking the extension), the deadline will be November 30;
- for those that will conclude their course on November 30 (because of the 2-month extension of D.L. “Rilancio”), the deadline will be January 31.

For those whose PhD course ends in other dates because of suspension periods, the end of the extension period and the deadline are shifted accordingly.

I sincerely apologize for the strict deadline. Unfortunately, we are waiting for more precise indications from the Ministry on how to manage from an administrative point of view the request for extension and the payment of the scholarship. Having a clear picture of the type and number of extension demands will help us to speed up the procedure. Any further indication coming from the Ministry will be communicated to you as soon as possible.
