For the *next appointment* of the series of seminars "Insalate di
Matematica", *Lorenzo Putignano* (Università degli Studi di Firenze) will
give a talk.
The speaker will deliver the talk *in presence* and the meeting will also
be broadcasted *online* (see below for more information).

*Date and time*: *23rd of October 2024, 4:30 pm (CEST)*

*Title*: "Combinatorial tales"

*Abstract*: In this talk I will give an overview on the representation
theory of the Symmetric Group and a family of related algebras known as
Ariki-Koike algebras. The aim of the talk is to underline the fundamental
influence of combinatorics on the subject and to show how purely algebraic
information can be easily detected using combinatorial tools. At the end I
will mention a result about Iwahori-Hecke algebras of type B and their
blocks. This is a joint work with Matthew Fayers (Queen Mary University of
London).
