Care colleghe e cari colleghi,

Sono lieto di informarvi che la Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics (SIAM) ha approvato la creazione del SIAM Student Chapter
presso l'Università di Pavia e l'Istituto di Matematica Applicata e
Tecnologie Informatiche "Enrico Magenes"!

Questo Chapter è aperto a tutti: studenti di laurea, dottorandi, postdoc e
professori. Lo scopo principale del SIAM Student Chapter è quello di promuovere
l'interesse per le scienze computazionali, sia in ambito accademico che
industriale, e di favorire l'interazione e la collaborazione tra
ricercatori e studenti di diversi dipartimenti. Il Chapter organizzerà
incontri regolari e seminari su diversi temi legati alle scienze
computazionali con interventi da parte di accademici e professionisti del
settore, offrendo anche orientamento sulle opportunità di carriera. Saranno
inoltre pianificati incontri con altri SIAM Student Chapter di istituzioni
vicine, come il PoliMi, la SISSA e l'EPFL.

Siete tutti invitati a partecipare alla prima riunione, che si terrà giovedì
12 settembre alle ore 11:00 presso il Dipartimento di Matematica, in Aula
Beltrami.

Durante questo incontro:

   -

   Registreremo i membri del Chapter;
   -

   Eleggeremo i funzionari (Presidente, Vice-Presidente, Segretario e
   Tesoriere);
   -

   Discuteremo modalità per coinvolgere studenti magistrali e triennali;
   -

   Pianificheremo le attività future, come seminari e reading courses, in
   base ai vostri interessi.

Far parte del SIAM Student Chapter non è solo un'opportunità di crescita
accademica e professionale, ma offre anche numerosi vantaggi, tra cui:

   Iscrizione gratuita al SIAM per tutti gli studenti membri;

   Fino a 500$ all'anno per organizzare eventi, seminari e invitare ospiti;

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you that the Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics (SIAM) has approved the creation of the SIAM Student Chapter at
the University of Pavia and the Institute of Applied Mathematics and
Information Technologies “Enrico Magenes”!

This Chapter is open to everyone: undergraduate students, PhD students,
postdocs, and professors. The main goal of the SIAM Student Chapter is
to promote
interest in computational sciences, both academically and industrially, and
to foster interaction and collaboration among researchers and students from
various departments. The Chapter will organize regular meetings and
seminars on different topics related to computational sciences, featuring
talks from academics and professionals in the field, while also offering
career guidance. Meetings with other SIAM Student Chapters from nearby
institutions, such as PoliMi, SISSA, and EPFL, will also be planned.

You are all invited to attend the first meeting, which will take place
on Thursday,
September 12th at 11:00 AM at the Department of Mathematics, Aula Beltrami.
During this meeting:

   -

   We will register Chapter members;
   -

   Elect officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer);
   -

   Discuss ways to involve master's and bachelor’s students;
   -

   Plan future activities, such as seminars and reading courses, based on
   your interests.

Being part of the SIAM Student Chapter is not only a great opportunity for
academic and professional growth, but it also offers several benefits,
including:

   -

   Free SIAM membership for all student members;
   -

   Up to $500 per year to organize events, seminars, and invite guest
   speakers;
   -

   Up to $650 to send a Chapter representative to the Student Days during
   the SIAM Annual Meeting.
