Abstract: Process mining is a technique capable of helping health managers to
discover clinical
paths in an automated way for process improvement. This study aimed to
discover the
clinical paths of patients with lung cancer in a health insurance company in
Brazil, to
identify the main tests for diagnosis and the main modalities used during the
treatment
of the disease. We analyzed the clinical pathways of 53 patients who were
diagnosed
with lung cancer between January 2018 to April 2020. The method had five
phases,
the first being the context and setting phase, then data extraction, in
sequence, the
data processing was carried out to, in sequence, apply the process mining
using
process mining techniques and finally, the results were analyzed and
analyzed. The
results show how a health process can be mapped with the use of process mining
techniques and how processes can support health managers in the
decision-making
process. Process maps of the clinical pathways of lung cancer patients show
delays in
the time of initiation of treatment in radiotherapy and target drug therapy,
when
compared with the time of other activities. Highly complex exams such as PET
Scan
and other important diagnostic tests such as tomography were seen to be
performed
quickly after consultation with the specialist. Continuous monitoring of
processes using
Process Mining can support managers and decision makers in monitoring these
processes automatically, with the intention of alleviating these delays,
improving
processes, and assisting in the analysis of complex processes, such as
oncology.
