Some contributions to model reduction of parametric systems in nonlinear
mechanicsAbstract.
In this talk, I present an overview of some recent works on model reduction
of parametric systems. Model reduction refers to a class of numerical
methods that aim at reducing the marginal cost (i.e., the cost in the limit
of many queries) associated with the solution to parametric partial
differential equations, over a range of parameters. First, I discuss the
development of projection-based (Galerkin, Petrov-Galerkin) reduced-order
models for nonlinear PDEs in parametric geometries: I review the
construction of quasi-optimal trial and test spaces and the construction of
empirical quadrature rules to enable real-time computations. Second, I
present some recent work on nonlinear approximations based on coordinate
transformations that are specifically tailored to shock-dominated problems.
Third, I develop component-based model reduction techniques to deal with
parameter-induced topology changes: in particular, I illustrate one-shot
domain decomposition techniques that recast the multi-domain formulation as
a PDE-constrained optimization problem.
