Titolo: Computationally Efficient Approximation of Parametric Partial
Differential Equations

Abstract: Parametric PDEs are often used to model physical problems with
uncertain inputs that are represented as functions of random variables. I
will present work from my PhD thesis investigating a posteriori error
estimation and the construction of an adaptive sparse grid approximation to
a parametric parabolic PDE. Adaptivity is shown to be particularly
important for time-dependent problems as the dependence of the solution on
the input parameters will change through time. Connections to ongoing work
with Lorenzo Tamellini investigating sparse grid approximation for
functions with "noisy" evaluations will also be discussed.
